Title: And So It Goes Author: salliejohns Rating: mature subject matter Category: V, MSR Spoilers: everything through DeadAlive Feedback: No flames, please, to salliejohns@comcast.net. I'm very tender. Website: http://www.geocities.com/salliejohns927/ Disclaimer: The characters of Mulder and Scully do not belong to me. More's the pity. Author's Notes: This story was written for the BtS Secret Santa, and is dedicated to my good friend Gwen. And So It Goes by salliejohns Bone tired, beyond conscious thought, her body crumbles into bed in a lump. A lump with an unmistakable bump. A bump that although not immobile, reflects her fatigue with slow, languid movements--her baby is tired, too. It has been an exhausting 36 hours. Exhausting, exhilarating, bewildering, incredible--the hours between life and death, or rather, between death and life, seem almost like a dream. Not even in her wildest dreams though, did she imagine Mulder pulled from cold, hard ground, gone for so long, grey and decaying, yet with some measurable, discernable sign of life. Scully doesn't dream impossible dreams, that was Mulder's wont. Scully's dreams are heartbreakingly real. Vivid scenes from a courtship impossibly long, a consummation of astonishing intensity, an intimacy far too brief. Scully's dreams wring every drop of emotion from her--they always end in the bitter victory of an unimaginable foe, and ultimately a cold, dark grave. Ironic then that tonight, as she sinks into deep, dreamless sleep, absurd, unimaginable dreams become reality. The man who never vacated her heart, lives, breathes, grins at her and makes a joke. Half, now whole, their odyssey continues. fin
