Summary: Some things are worth the consequences.

Author's Note: I really tried to make this 155 

words but it ran a little long. It's so short that 

I didn't bother with a beta so any mistakes are 

mine. This was written for the After the Fact 

challenge.

When I was five I came running home after school 

one day and screamed out that I was in love.

Unfortunately for me, my big brother was the one 

who heard me.

His oh-so-supportive response was to shrug and go 

back to his comic book. "You'll have to deal with 

the consequences."

We moved the next week.

I cried for hours until my dad pulled into a small 

town and announced that we were getting ice cream. 

My broken heart was miraculously healed.

My brother's words stuck with me however. In fact, 

they were the first ones to pop into my head when 

I realized I was in love with Mulder.

Now, as we stand next to the smoky crater that 

used to be a trailer, arguing over what 

constitutes life, I think of how these words 

relate to Esther and David.

Then I look up at Mulder who is waiting for me to 

answer him.

And I realize that some things are worth the 

consequences.
