He was waiting for the men that X said would break into his apartment. As he waited his mind went back to a dream that he had last night. Scully had come to him during the night and admitted her feelings for him. Part of him thought that she admitted her feelings because he wanted he to. Another part of him hoped that she admitted her feelings because she felt that way. He still remembered what she said to him. "The first time I laid my eyes on you I knew that we'd spend this life side by side. I still feel the same though you're so far away. I swear that you'll always be mine. Forever love. I promise you someday we'll be together, forever love. Minutes and hours and tears may go by. But my heart knows nothing of time. So don't cry, just keep me right there in your dreams. And hold on to these words of mine. Love is the road to our destiny. Nothing can change what is meant to be." The shuffling outside Mulder's door jarred him back to the present. He looked at his watch and saw that it was 7:30. It was too early for the men to come. He heard someone knocking on his door and he grabbed his gun. He heard a woman's voice say, "Mulder?" He went to the door and opened it, surprised to see Melissa standing there. "I'm sorry. I came by...you weren't answering and your machine wasn't on. Can I come in?" And at seeing Mulder's hesitant look she added, "For a second?" Mulder ushered her inside his dark apartment. "Why is it so dark in here?" she asked. "Because the lights aren't on." he answered. "Okay. I just came from the hospital. Dr. Daly says...she's weakening. It could be anytime. So I figured you'd want to come down and see her." "Well, I can't." "Well, I think that you would." "Yeah, I would. I can't. Not right now." He really wanted to go see her but he had to fight the people responsible for Scully's condition. "Listen, I don't have to be psychic to see that you're in a very dark place. Much darker than where my sister is. Willingly walking deeper into darkness cannot help her at all. Only the light..." "Oh, enough with the harmonic convergence crap! OK?" Mulder exclaimed. "You're not saying anything to me." "Why don't you just drop your cynicism and your paranoia and you defeat. You know, just because it's positive and good doesn't make it silly or trite. Why is it so much easier for you to run around trying to get even than just expressing to her how you feel. I expect more. Dana expects more." Melissa walked towards the door. "Even if it doesn'tbring her back, at least she'll know. And so will you." She opened the door and walked out. After she left Mulder thought about what she said. He decided that he should go to the hospital and tell Scully how he feels. There would be more chances to catch the people responsible, but there might mot be any more chances to tell Scully how he feels. He went to Scully's hospital bed and held her hand. "I feel Scully, that...you believe...you're not ready to go. And you've always had the strength of your beliefs. I don't know if my being here...will help bring you back. But I'm here." He leaned over and whispered in her ear, "I'll be waiting for you forever love." Then he kissed both of her cheeks and left. The End Did you like? Please, please, please e-mail me at mjh@psnw.com.
