What would happen? *This story is written for After the Fact's "Unnatural" Post Episode Challenge.* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I looked up from reading the Roswell Grays' box scores and saw Scully walking into the office. She was carrying several large books and she placed them on my desk. Then she gazed out the window. I thought she wanted to go outside, probably wanting to be away from me. "Mulder?" I looked up at her and gazed into her clear blue eyes. "What's wrong, Scully?" "Mulder, it is such a gorgeous day outside," said Scully. She paused for a second. "Have you ever entertained the idea of trying to find life on this planet?" I reflected briefly on what I was going to say to her. I didn't really know, but a germ of an idea had broken free. "I have seen the life on this planet, Scully, and that is exactly why I am looking elsewhere." I looked intently at Scully, whom I guess was thinking of a good comeback. Then she said it. "How come you want to look elsewhere when you have me?" This brought a huge smile to my face. She actually wanted me! Oh my God! I had been dying to hear those words from her for such a long time. "Hey, you're right. I'd rather have you than be looking elsewhere on other planets. You're the planets, the moons, and the stars in the sky. You mean the world to me." I paused briefly. "You know what they say, Scully?" "What?" "Life is a journey, and love is what makes that journey worthwhile. The author of that quotation is unknown, but this is what I have always felt towards you, Scully," I said. I gazed into her azure colored eyes. I wanted her so much. I wanted to make love to her right then and there. There was so much I wanted to tell her and I knew this was as good a time as any to let her know how I felt towards her. I put my arms around her waist and then I embraced her. I could feel her heatbeat next to mine. "I love you, Scully." Our lips touched for a moment in time to formulate a kiss. After the kiss, she looked up at me. I could see her eyes welling with tears that were threatening to break. She was smiling at me. "And I love you, Mulder." I knew then that I would never be looking elsewhere. I was quite happy to be with her on this planet. -- the end -- Feedback: Much appreciated. Send to: eblair@sonic.net Author's Notes: This story was written for After the Fact's Unnatural Post Episode Challenge. It took me months to write this story. I thought it would get done sooner rather than later, but it didn't work out that way. I spent months planning, writing the first draft, then the second draft, then the third, then the fourth, etc. I wanted to make sure that the quality would be excellent because I care about my stories more than ever before. This story was quite simply a joy to write. I thought of expanding more of the first scene to show why Mulder and Scully were very flirty in the last scene. I hope you will enjoy this story as much as I had writing it. -- ------------------------------------ erinmblair@gmail.com eblair@sonic.net
